- Solve puzzles and discover how patterns can be used to find the answers to problems.
- Explore patterns in Moebius strips.
- Explore patterns found in the creations of artist M.C. Escher.
- Investigate visual patterns and literary motifs and the complexity of repeating elements found in knots, mazes, and labyrinths.
- Discover through participation in the simulation “Arctic Survival,” the concept of scarcity and its importance in the field of economics.
- Read and analyze “Jigsaw Man” and discuss how it anticipates the development of social dilemmas, such as organ scarcity.
- Read Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein to observe how it foreshadowed scientific discoveries and dilemmas of this century and initiated the genre of science fiction.
- Design and construct experiments with Wisconsin Fast Plants to identify repetitions, to discover patterns, and to predict the expressed characteristics of future generations.
